Enhance your gem testing experience with the Refractive Index Fluid for Gem Testing, a vital tool for gemologists designed to identify the refractive index of various gemstones. This fluid allows your refractometer to measure within the range of 1.30 to 1.80, making it perfect for testing all types of stones!
As the name suggests, this burgundy liquid is widely used as a contact medium with gem refractometers for gemstone identification. It effectively reduces or eliminates glare from a gem’s surface, facilitating a thorough inspection of the gem’s interior for inclusions and other defects.
Our GL-01 fluid is packed in an amber glass vial and contains approximately 3ml of solution. To guarantee maximum shelf life, keep the liquid securely sealed after each use and store the vials in a protected area away from direct light and in a dry environment with moderate temperatures.

Operating Information
- Apply the refractive index oil to the lens using a thin applicator to avoid dust capture from your hands.
- Touch the drop of oil gently to the slide and allow it to flow. Avoid dabbing, as this increases the likelihood of bubbles.
- Once the lens is oiled, slowly raise it to spread the oil evenly.
- Carefully place the gemstone on the spread refractive index oil on the lens to begin viewing.
- After use, remove the refractive index oil immediately from the lens to prevent hardening, which could damage the lens. Wipe the lens with a moist, soft cloth and store it in a dry, dustless container.
Choose value and quality with the Refractive Index Fluid for Gem Refractometers and ensure accurate and efficient gem testing.
