The Gemstone Identification Kit is expertly crafted using the finest materials, featuring a selection of high-quality tools essential for any gemologist. This comprehensive kit includes a New Calcite Dichroscope, Small Diffraction Spectroscope, Jadeite Filter, and a Handheld Polariscope with Flashlight, all designed to ensure accuracy and durability.

Included Tools:

(1) New Calcite Dichroscope

The Calcite Dichroscope allows users to determine whether a stone exhibits dichroism (reflects two colors), aiding in the differentiation of similarly colored stones. It is particularly useful for identifying gemstones in their rough form and those that are set, where access is limited. Light entering the dichroscope splits into two polarized rays at right angles, revealing the pleochroic colors characteristic of doubly refractive stones. If no dichroism is identified, the stone can be rotated for further analysis, making it effective for trichroic gems as well.

  • Specifications:
    • Type: Calcite
    • Diameter: 15mm
    • Length: 60mm
    • Body: Metal

Accessories Included: Synthetic Leather Soft Case, User Manual

(2) Small Diffraction Spectroscope

This handheld spectroscope analyzes visible light to display absorption lines, distinguishing between similar stones such as ruby (chrome) and red or pink sapphire (iron). It separates light transmitted from a gemstone into spectral colors, revealing the wavelengths absorbed and the elements present in the stone. This tool is crucial for identifying gemstones, as it can differentiate naturally colored diamonds from irradiated ones, as well as natural stones from synthetics.

  • Specifications:
    • Length: 50mm
    • Diameter: 14mm
    • Material: Brass (Durable)

Accessory Included: Synthetic Leather Carry Pouch

(3) Jadeite Filter

An essential tool for identifying colored stones, the Jadeite Filter was designed to differentiate genuine Emeralds from imitations. It transmits only deep red and yellow-green light, providing best results under strong electric light. When examining a stone, genuine Emeralds will typically appear distinctly red or pinkish, while most imitations retain a green appearance. This filter is also effective for analyzing other colored stones.

  • Specifications:
    • Filter Diameter: 20mm
    • Body: Metal

Accessory Included: Synthetic Leather Carry Pouch

(4) Handheld Polariscope with Flashlight

The Polariscope is used to test cut or rough gemstones, employing two polarizing filters to observe a stone’s optical properties. This tool helps to determine if a gemstone is singly or doubly refractive and can also assist in identifying Moissanite and detecting strain in diamonds.

  • Specifications:
    • Size: Length: 80mm, Diameter: 28mm
    • Material: Optical Glass, Metal

Accessory Included: Handheld LED Flashlight, Carry Pouch

Operating Information:

To operate the Polariscope:

  • Insert the flashlight into the opening beneath the polariscope and tighten the screw to secure it.
  • Place the removable lens into the polariscope with the narrow end facing down.
  • Position the gemstone in the prong holder within the open space.
  • Turn on the flashlight and hold the upper portion of the polariscope to your eye.
