The Gem Refractometer, often referred to as the Gemstone Refractometer, is a crucial tool for identifying and verifying polished precious and semi-precious gemstones. It allows users to observe the optical properties and structure of these stones with precision. Comparable to high-end models used in gemological institutes, this refractometer is designed to measure the Refractive Index (RI) of faceted stones using Contact liquid (RI Fluid), which creates an optical connection between the glass and the gemstone. The RI of a gemstone is a key factor in determining its identity, based on its chemical composition and crystalline structure. This tool is also effective for measuring RI in various minerals, provided they have a flat, polished surface. It enables the determination of whether a gem exhibits Single Refraction (Isotropic) or Double Refraction (Anisotropic or Birefringence). An additional bottle of 1.800 Refractive Index Oil is available as an optional purchase.
